Hello...

I setup Proview 5.2 system back in 2014. It was running fine. But the customer want to update computer (still running ubuntu 14.04) with new one.

So I have question. If I update system to latest Ubuntu and ProviewR Is it possible to just transfer old sources to new system or there will be a lot of new things to do?

p.s.
I do only that Proview system and after installing didn't do anything on that. So I'm rusted how to use Proview. Just remember that it was step learning curve and I'm not getting to be younger.

Hello...
I try to do "dry" run to check how to upgrade.
So I install recent xubuntu 20.04 and try to install recent ProviewR.
And I failed at the start. When I try to install pwr57 there are unmet dependency.
pwr57 require libhdf5-openmpi-100 but only libhdf5-openmpi-103 is available for xubuntu 20.04. As I want to update system to recent one seems little odd to install ubuntu 18.04 as it's allready pretty old.

Any suggestion/help?

And finally found where upgrade procedure is written. And If Understand correctly I can't skip any step. As I have version 5.2.1-1 running I must go trougth:

V5.2 on ubuntu 14.04
V5.3 on ubuntu 14.04
V5.4 on ubuntu 14.04
V5.5 on ubuntu 16.04
V5.6 on ubuntu 18.04
V5.7 on ubuntu 18.04

and should got working system from my sources... ...this will take a lot of time.

What is the reason they want to update/upgrade?
Is the system running in a protected LAN?

The reason is that they want to install some other software on same computer and that software require at least ubuntu 18.04.
And the second reason is that computer is old and they want to replace with new one. (actually it was already old when was installed on 2014)

I rescued system from my old computer with:
source /usr/pwrp/adm/db/pwr_setup.sh
sdf mesalnica
reload.sh
++++++++++just do the dumpdb and then cancel
sudo tar cvpfz ~/mesalnica.tar.gz /usr/local/pwrp/mesalnica

So I have project in mesalnica.tar.gz file and I transfered that to new computer and unpack with:
sudo tar xvpfz mesalnica.tar.gz -C /

After that I try to follow upgrade manual but failed
source /usr/pwrp/adm/db/pwr_setup.sh
sdf mesalnica
Unable to find project 'mesalnica'

So what step is missing here?
I do clean install of ubuntu and proview (I use virtualbox for make upgrade at home)

If I was in your situation:

They want to keep your Proview project "as is".

- Install 14.04 in Virtualbox
- Make your project working
- Make a dist-upgrade to 16.04 and check if your Proview project still works.
- Make a dist-upgrade to 18.04 and check if your Proview project still works.

If you succeeded make the same steps on newer hardware......
