a last question for this thread: do the computers for the development and process stations must also have the same architecture? (I am thinking to experiment a multi-station with both i386 and amd64 computers)
Yes, to be able to build the plc executable they should have the same architecture. For operator stations without any plc there is nothing that is platform dependent so that might be possible, although I haven't tested it.
