Hi all,

So I’m quite new to all this but I’m going for a project.
I’m also a newbie to programming, but I got ARCH up and running

Now I have a raspberry pi 3 model B and I want to install proview to make an automated glass labatorium distillation colom.

The setup will consist out of a few dallas temp sensors, some on/off switches and 1 of 2 controllers for the heater/cooling (trying to control this with an 4-24mA or 0-10V signal)

But first things first:
Pi 3 with Proview.

What I want is a light or relatively light linux installation so I already installed ARCH Linux, BUT now I understand that proview doesn’t work well with this version.

So before I continue i hope you guys can point me in the right direction.

What is the best Linux version to run Proview on a Pi 3?

(and is the PI 3 capable of running the operaor system with a few graphs(refresh mode 5 sec orso))

So I read about raspberry jerrie but that seem with 4,5 Gb quite a BIG version of linux and I wondering it this to heavy for the pi3 or is it no problem?
For the storage it is no problem I have a 32Gb UHS 1 SD card which seems quite fast in starting up ARCH.

So can you help me?

What linux verion do I need best for the latest Proview 5.5 software?

Hi Oiler,

Raspbian is supported. But there seems to be problems with latest releases.

It's not blazing fast if you run a development station on the Pi, just give it a try.
But it's the easiest way.

It is always a good start to learn Proview on a x86, before you start with the Pi.

The learning curve by using the cross compiling possibility in combination with pwrrt (process/operator-station) can be steep if you are new to linux.

Good luck.

so it is better to develop it on a normal pc with linux and than use the pi as operating system?

The design of Proview is based on project creations on a development station and after testing to distribute the project to an operator or process station.
Especially if you have many projects and operator/process stations this is the best way to use Proview.

When you have only one small project, it is possible to use a development station as operator/process station as well.
So you can run a development station on the Pi (raspbian) but it is not blazing fast so it can be irritating if you are in a learning curve.
Or learn Porview on a x86 first so you are be able to use your knowledge quickly on a Raspberry Pi later on.
