TOPIC: Proview & Snap7

Proview & Snap7 5 years 5 months ago #9973

Hi everyone,‎

I'm trying to learn proview, but for a beginner like me I know it's going to take me a while to master this wonderful software.
I just recently discovered another software called Snap7, from the description found here:

snap7.sourceforge.net/

it is said that

Snap7 is an open source, 32/64 bit, multi-platform Ethernet communication suite for interfacing natively with Siemens S7 PLCs. The new CPUs 1200/1500, the old S7 200.

is it possible to use Snap7 with proview?
If it is possible, can someone show me step by step how to use them together?

Thank you in advance for your answer

Hi,

I haven't noticed Snap7 before but is looks interesting. I'm afraid there is no interface to Snap7 in ProviewR.

Hi Claes

First of all I would like to thank you for your answer.

I thought there would be a way to relate Snap7 with Proview or use Snap7 with Proview, because from the videos below snap7 can be used with a simple arduino or python for example, and it supported C/C++,Pascal,Phyton,Node.js,.NET.

Here are some examples I founded:

Siemens S7-1200 PLC to Arduino

Raspberry Pi - Tutorials - S7-1200 & Snap7 Python

Snap7 Communication Library

Python snap7 test example.

By the way, I would like to ask you a question from someone who is just starting out with ProviewR. According to the videos we find on the ProviewR website we can use the grafcet with this great software according to the video proposed by Ben "Proview - Tutorial N°5: grafcet programming" which I am redoing step by step using ProviewR V5.6 and linux mint 19.
What is the utility of grafcet in ProviewR, and after having done a grafcet, can we connect it to a scada system always made with ProviewR.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

What communications protocol do Siemens S7 PLCs use? Does Proview support this protocol?

Hi barnes

Concerning your question : What communications protocol do Siemens S7 PLCs use?

Here is a link that shows you the Siemens communications overview

snap7.sourceforge.net/siemens_comm.html

It said Siemens PLCs, through their communication processors (CP) can communicate in Ethernet via two protocols: Open TCP/IP and S7 Protocol.

and it also said it use the S7 Protocol, which is the backbone of the Siemens communications, its Ethernet implementation relies on ISO TCP (RFC1006) which, by design, is block oriented.

I found this on the Siemens WEB site. It looks like you can get a profibus module. I think Proview supports profibus. I have not used profibus so do not know much about it.
